Falabella Pony
The Falabella-ponies get their name from the Falabella family, that bred them at their Ranch Recreo de Roca near Buenes Aires, Argentina.

They crossed small Shetlands, Welsh ponies, full blooded, Andalusians and Criollos and of those bred the smallest on the basis of intense incest. The breeding goal was to get a perfect small Arabian the size of a pony.

The smallest was supposed to be arount 65cm and the biggest about 83cm. There are exeptions that can be bigger though! There are Falabellas in all colours.

Starting 1940 the family Falabella started keeping a register on there ponies. This register is used by the "Association de Criadores de Caballos" (Falabella Horse Breeders Association) to link all Falabellas in the world to the origin from the family Falabella, otherwise they won´t be considered a true Falabella.

In 1977 Lord and Lady Fisher imported four breeding stallions and several breeding mares to England, one of them being the famous stallion "Menelek". In order to maintain the authenticity and quality of the Falabellas the family Fisher together with mister Fitzmaurice grounded the IFMHS.
